Compression Bandaging

Compression Bandaging

Compression bandaging or multi-layer bandaging is an essential component of Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy. Bandaging reduces swelling and helps to maintain the progress while the patient is in treatment.

Compression bandaging is often applied concurrently with Manual Lymph Drainage and time on a Pneumatic Compression pump. The bandaging maintains the reduction of fluid produced by MLD and the compression pump until the patient’s next visit by administering continuous compression.

It is very important to be bandaged by and learn from a certified Lymphedema therapist. You will learn that there is a specific method of wrapping to properly reduce and maintain the swelling particular to each patient. There are specific bandages needed for Lymphedema and typically the therapist will layer a combination of different types of bandages and materials such as foam or cotton.
